Welcome to the Ebell Society of the
Santa Ana Valley
The Ebell Society of the Santa Ana Valley owes its origin and its
inspiration to the Ebell of Oakland, California, which was founded by
Dr. Ebell of Berlin in 1876. Dr. Ebell felt that it was important for
women to have cultural pursuits outside the home. Our local chapter was
organized in 1894, and was in existence for thirty years before
Frederick Eley designed the Mediterranean, one-story structure, built in
1924 by Sam Preble. The clubhouse was listed on the National Register of
Historic Places in 2002.
Ebell members (and their guests) enjoy a general meeting on the
second-Monday of every month, with speakers, performers, and music -
both vocal and instrumental by professional artists - followed by a
lovely tea in the Peacock Room. Events, such as card parties, themed
dinners, special luncheons, fashion shows, and other functions are held
on a regular basis.
We have a nice variety of sections which meet a wide spectrum of
interests including Antiques/Our Heritage, Climbing Your Family Tree
(genealogy), Comfort and Joy (philanthropic), Fancy Potpourri (variety
of programs), Home and Garden, Quilting Section, Second Book Review,
Second Travel, The Wise Thing To Do (supports WisePlace), and Where’s
Art? (discovering art in different ways). In addition, there are many
bridge groups, and even a Color Guard unit that performs flag duties.
Most of these groups meet once a month during the year – September 15 to
June 15.
There is something for everyone at Ebell, including friendship, good
times, and worthwhile cultural activities. Dues are only $50 a year, and
membership is open to both men and women. For additional information, or
